Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Cannon
The NLOS Cannon is the key indirect fire support system and lead Manned Ground Vehicle for the FCS program. Combat experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan have demonstrated that cannon artillery remains the most responsive, 24-hour, all-weather fire support for ground forces.
The push-button firepower of the NLOS Cannon will give Soldiers an even more lethal, flexible and responsive fire support option for ensuring mission success in all combat scenarios.
The FCS development schedule calls for the first NLOS Cannon prototypes to be delivered in 2008.
The NLOS Cannon prototypes will incorporate lightweight band track, a two-person crew station and a hybrid electric propulsion system that maximizes power and fuel efficiency.
The Firing Platform features a 38-caliber length, fully automated 155-mm howitzer – integrated onto a tracked chassis – that will undergo testing and qualification of its ultra-lightweight cannon and breech at Army test facilities.
BAE Systems is integrating many of the advanced technologies developed for NLOS Cannon into other FCS Manned Ground Vehicles.
