BAE Systems - AUSA 2008 - RG33 Series Mine Protected Vehicles

RG33 Series Mine Protected Vehicles

The RG33 Series is the most advanced line of mine-protected vehicles, offering more volume under armor than any other mine-protected vehicle and incorporating the latest designs protecting against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The highly survivable RG33 incorporates a monocoque V-shaped hull design and advanced armor recipe that leverages knowledge gained in recent and ongoing conflicts.

The RG33 Series is available in 4x4 and 6x6 configurations. The advanced mine-protected vehicles are deployed as Infantry Carriers, Ambulance Vehicles, Command and Control, Convoy Escort, Explosive Ordnance Disposal and other roles. The RG33 vehicles can be recovered by the RG33 Mine Resistant Recovery & Maintenance Vehicle.

The RG33 vehicle has demonstrated unsurpassed protection, extended payload and proven performance. Thus, it has been competitively selected for multiple contracts, from multiple customers, in multiple configurations in 2007:

  • BAE Systems has been selected by the U.S. Army to be the sole producer of the new Medium Mine Protected Vehicle (MMPV), and has been awarded an initial $20 million delivery order under the $2.288 billion MMPV program. The MMPV contract envisions production of up to 2,500 vehicles for use by U.S. Army Engineers and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams through 2015.
  • BAE Systems has been competitively selected to produce the next generation of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) II vehicle, based on the RG33 vehicle, by the MRAP Joint Program Office. Under the MRAP II program, the government could order the production of up to 20,500 MRAP II vehicles, testing, spare parts and logistics support.

Production for the RG33 will be performed at BAE Systems facilities in York and Chambersburg, Penn., Aiken, S.C., Fairfield, Ohio and Sealy, Texas, with assistance from Spartan Motors Chassis’ facility in Charlotte, Mich. and Demmer Corporation’s facility in Lansing, Mich. Deliveries are expected to begin in May 2008 and be completed by June 2008.

More than 1,500 BAE Systems employees are producing vehicles with the support of suppliers in more than 30 states across the U.S.
