Non-Line-of-Sight Mortar

The NLOS Mortar is a 120-mm mortar vehicle that will provide the most accurate and responsive medium-range fire support critical to the infantry Soldier in the close fight.

NLOS Mortar is being designed by BAE Systems as an automated, single-tube, 120-mm smoothbore turreted mortar with a three-person crew.

The breech-loaded NLOS Mortar will allow the crew to remain under armor protection during fire missions, provide 24/7 fire support in all-weather conditions with a range of 8 km, maximum rate of fire of 16 rounds per minute, and a sustained rate of 8 rounds per minute. 

NLOS Mortar will be capable of firing a six-round Multiple-Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) mission. NLOS Mortar features a 360º traversing turret and ability to carry rounds in onboard ammunition magazines. 

The Firing Platform fired more than 600 rounds in 2007 and will undergo further testing in 2008.

BAE Systems will deliver the first NLOS Mortar prototype vehicle by 2011.
