ATIRCM/Common Missile Warning System

The Common Missile Warning System (CMWS) protects fixed and rotary wing aircraft against infrared guided missile threats. This system is performing well and saving lives today.  It has been designed to operate autonomously; it detects, tracks and defeats hostile missiles automatically and enables the pilots to concentrate on flying the aircraft.  Near-term upgrades to CMWS include hardware and software improvements that will provide seamless integration of other aircraft-based threat detection systems. Advanced Threat Infared Countermeasure (ATIRCM)/CMWS is the US military's next-generation directable, multi-band laser-based countermeasures system, designed to protect helicopters and attack aircraft against widely deployed heat-seeking missile threats.
