Unmanned Ground Vehicles
Robots today play a significant role in both civilian and military lives. In the military today there are currently thousands of robots in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their use in the armed services is increasing.
The U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) will employ three classes of unmanned ground vehicles that provide new capability to Soldiers in the FCS Brigade Combat Teams: the Armed Robotic Vehicle (ARV), the Multifunction Utility/Logistics and Equipment Vehicle, and the Small Unmanned Ground Vehicle. The ARV, the largest of the three, has two variants: the Assault variant, and the Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition variant. These systems are currently in development and will be key elements in the FCS System of Systems, providing greatly enhanced operational capability in the FCS-equipped Brigade Combat Teams – the Army’s future tactical war fighting echelon.
BAE Systems is developing critical UGV programs and demonstrators, providing the U.S. military with the ability to see and strike the enemy first, while offering soldiers and Marines unprecedented protection and survivability.
