Other Future Vehicles

In addition to FCS, BAE Systems is developing advanced next-generation vehicles for programs worldwide, such as SEP for Sweden and the Future Rapid Effects System (FRES). With more than 10 years of development work and 8,000 kilometers of testing of the SEP next-generation combat vehicle from BAE Systems, many challenges regarding next generation vehicle design have been addressed. Studies and tests conducted during this period have confirmed that the SEP concept is an attractive solution for military vehicle systems of the future.

SEP is a military vehicle system available in both wheeled and tracked configurations, with interchangeable, specialized mission modules. SEP is a proportionally light vehicle with hybrid drive and high loading capacity and can be transported by air. Flexibility and modularity are key features of SEP. For example, the 6x6 and 8x8 wheeled variants allow for each wheel to be controlled individually, enabling the vehicle to make a complete pivot turn.

Emphasis during testing has been placed on thorough testing of the hybrid drive system, silent running on battery only, rubber band track, brakes, speed, vetronics (the vehicle’s digitized control system), fuel consumption and redundancy.
