GMR will provide war fighters a multi-channel software programmable, hardware-configurable digital radio networking system. GMR supports requirements from the Army Aviation Rotary Wing, Air Force Tactical Control Party, and Army and USMC Ground Vehicular platforms.
JTRS HMS is managed in conjunction with the Army's Program Manager for the Warfighter Information Network – Tactical, part of the Program Executive Office, Command, Control and Communications – Tactical at Fort Monmouth, N.J. The Communications Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth is the contracting agency.
HMS will oversee acquisition development and production of JTRS handheld and manpack units and forms suitable for embedment into platforms requiring a Small Form Fit radio for the 2Mhz - 2.5Ghz frequency range.
HMS will include several variants of the SFF radio and two versions of the handheld radio – a single channel model and a two-channel model (with the objective of producing a three-channel version). The manpack radio will have two configurable channels (with an objective of four).
