The Commanders Light Automatic Weapon (CLAW) provides a rapid response self-defense weapon to the A3 Bradley Commander. CLAW is an M-249, 5.56mm Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) mounted directly to the Bradley A3 Commander's Independent Viewer (CIV). The CLAW points wherever the commander is looking with the CIV, with 360-degree azimuth and -20º to +60º elevation coverage, and is pointed and fired from under armor by the existing commander's hand control.

The Bradley fire control provides fire inhibits for no-fire zones, normal safe/arm functions, and an automated load/stow position for rapid ammo reloading and charging. The system is independent of the turret or main gun orientation and the mount permits the SAW to fire from the standard 200 round disposable drum. A "soft recoil" mount provides a stable CIV image while firing. The CLAW design provides a crew-installable accessory kit after a minor CIV field modification. An adapter kit permits the mounting of an M231 weapon in place of the M249 SAW.
