Bv206S/BvS10
The Bv206S is an armored, further-developed version of the Bv206 Small Unit Support Vehicle (SUSV), providing optimum protection against fragments and small arms fire. More than 1,000 Bv206 (SUSV) vehicles have been sold by BAE Systems to the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and National Guard, and a total of 11,000 vehicles have been sold to 40 countries around the world in at least 50 variants.
The Bv206S armored all-terrain vehicle is designed to meet tough military requirements for extreme mobility under splinter protection in all climates, with high reliability and low maintenance cost. The basic hull provides protection against small arms and fragments, which can be enhanced with add-on protection. It can also be fitted with air conditioning, NBC and an automatic fire extinguishing system.
The Bv206S consists of two tracked cars, articulated in relation to each other by an ingenious steering mechanism. The front and rear cars are articulated in relation to each other, horizontally for steering and vertically to follow uneven terrain. All four tracks are driven all the time. The track and articulating systems are the same as for Bv206, facilitating training and spare parts supply.
The vehicle is powered by a turbocharged diesel engine. The automatic transmission, also commercially available, ensures smooth gear changes and requires a minimum of driver training.
The Bv206S has a total weight of about seven tons with a load capacity of 1,500 to 2,500 kg depending on the variant, and when configured as an armored personnel carrier (APC) can carry 12 combat-equipped soldiers. It is designed for air transport in a number of aircraft, fits inside both the CH47 and CH53 helicopters and is amphibious with minor preparations. With extremely high mobility in all kinds of terrain and high load capacity, the Bv206S is an ideal vehicle for Rapid Deployment Forces.
The Bv206S has been ordered by the Swedish, German, French, Spanish and Italian armies.
The BvS10 is the latest generation of the all-terrain vehicle family, and is based on more than 25 years experience of articulated all-terrain vehicle design and production. The BvS10 weighs 11 tons with a load capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 kg depending on the variant. This vehicle can also serve as an APC, comfortably carrying 12 combat-equipped soldiers and an overhead weapon station.
The basic hull provides protection against small arms and fragments, which can be enhanced with add-on protection.
A modernized track suspension system, power train and steering unit offers a greater top speed both on and off-road compared to the Bv206, with ride comfort comparable with modern Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs). It has a low signature and is built for the highest level of tactical and strategic mobility, including amphibious landing capability.
The BvS10 has been ordered by the UK Royal Marines and the Royal Netherlands Marines in four variants: troop carrier; command; repair and recovery; and ambulance. They will be used for worldwide operations as logistics vehicles for carrying both troops and equipment.
